Pioneer Day

We celebrated a great Pioneer Day. Here it's a state holiday, so Beau was able to have Friday off. We hung out (meaning I read a book and Nora and Beau played) for the morning, then after nap-time, we decided to take advantage of the fee-free week at the copper mine. Beau had never been there, and it's not too far away, so it was really fun. For those of you who don't know, the Bingham Canyon mine is the largest excavation in the world. You can see it with the naked eye from space.

They use these rather large (HUGE) trucks to hall the stuff around. It doesn't look as big here.
This is the tire they have on display. There are six of these on each truck. Each tire costs $25,000. They mostly mine for copper, but they get a fair amount of gold and silver there as well. You can see compared to Beau and Nora how crazy huge they are.
Then on Saturday, after A LOT of yard work by Beau, we decided to hit up a local town celebration. Our friends decided to join us, and it was fun to hang out. We made it for most of the parade (it was SO hot!), then we did some kids crafts, face painting and chatting in the shade. We didn't stay for fireworks, but we enjoyed the evening.
Nora sat still long enough to get some face painting. It was really fun for her, and she loved the butterfly.
All in all, a good weekend with our little family.
